An Evening With Eugene O’Brien

Festival Edenderry

Thursday 30th June @ 8.00pm

The Edenderry born author and playwright, will give readings from his soon to be released novel GOING BACK. The book is based around Scobie Donoghue, one of the characters from his hugely successful TV show, Pure Mule. GoingBack, is due for release on August 27th.

The reading will be interspersed with anecdotes and stories about the filming of the series and of some of the characters involved. Joining Eugene on the night will be Cora Ennis.

Cora has worked with RTE radio and television over the last 24 years as a researcher, producer, and now series producer. During that time she has worked with some of the station’s top presenters including the late Mariane Finucane, Ryan Tubridy, Sean O’Rourke and Claire Byrne. She is currently the producer in charge for Sunday with Miriam featuring Miriam O’Callaghan. She will conduct an interview with Eugene about his new book as well as some of his other works. These will include his smash hit play Eden, AND his long awaited sequel to Eden.

The new play “HEAVEN” will be premiered in Dublin in September. Produced by Fishamble Theatre Co. and featuring actors Aisling O’Sullivan (The Clinic, Cracker, The Butcher Boy, Michael Collins) and Andrew Bennett (The Ten Steps, This Is My Father, Angela’s Ashes, God’s Creatures).

An Evening With Eugene O’Brien, promises to be a brilliant night of fun, laughs. and insights into the world of one of Edenderry’s most successful exports.. It’s not to be missed.

The committee is hugely indebted to Eugene for his ongoing support for our festival. In 2018, he performed the official opening and in 2019 he wrote a special piece for our brochure. It’s great to have someone from our town who is so successful but who is always willing to get involved when asked. We hope both GOING BACK and his new play HEAVEN will be massive hits, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy said committee Chair Bryan Dunne.
