Kinnitty Pyramid

What it’s all about

About

Kinnitty Pyramid is one of County Offaly’s most unusual heritage features, located beside the Church of Ireland in Kinnitty at the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Built between 1830 and 1834 by Richard Wellesley-Bernard as a family burial vault, the structure is an exact replica of the Egyptian Pyramid of Cheops. Standing on a hill overlooking the village, it forms a distinctive landmark visible from surrounding countryside. The pyramid reflects the 19th-century fascination with Egyptian architecture and adds a unique cultural element to Kinnitty’s historic landscape and visitor experience.
