Shannon Harbour
What it’s all about
About
Shannon Harbour is a historically important waterside village located where the Grand Canal, the River Shannon and the River Brosna meet. Developed during the great canal-building era of the early nineteenth century, Shannon Harbour became a busy transport and trading point connecting Dublin with the Shannon navigation system. Today the village is known for its marina setting, historic canal architecture and boating culture. Visitors can enjoy walking and cycling along the Grand Canal Greenway, watching boats pass through the locks, and exploring the harbour area with its bridges, dry dock and restored waterways heritage. Shannon Harbour is also a gateway to nearby attractions including Clonmacnoise, Banagher and the wider Hidden Heartlands waterways network.
