Shannonbridge

What it’s all about

About

Shannonbridge is a historic riverside village located on the banks of the River Shannon, where counties Offaly, Galway and Roscommon meet. The village takes its name from the impressive 16-arch stone bridge completed in 1757, one of the oldest surviving bridges across the Shannon. Shannonbridge is renowned for its rich waterways heritage, boating culture and striking Napoleonic-era fortifications, including the restored Shannon Bridge Fortifications overlooking the river. Visitors can enjoy marina facilities, riverside walks, angling and boat tours while exploring nearby attractions such as Clonmacnoise and the Shannon Callows nature conservation area. The village is also a popular stop along Ireland’s inland waterways network and Hidden Heartlands touring routes.
