Slieve Bloom Way

What it’s all about

About

If you fancy getting off the beaten track for a multi-day mountain trekking adventure, pack your rucksack and take on the Slieve Bloom Way, a circular long-distance trail across the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Covering approximately 70.5 km, the route can be comfortably explored over three days, with daily walks of four to five hours through varied terrain ranging from gorse-covered uplands to gentle inclines and quiet forest tracks.

The Slieve Bloom Way stretches through an area of remarkable natural beauty known for its rich flora and fauna, deep glens, rock outcrops and waterfalls. While some sections are rough and rugged, the trail rarely reaches high altitudes and does not require extreme stamina, making it accessible to reasonably experienced walkers seeking a rewarding long-distance route.

The trail is best accessed from five trailheads at Kinnitty, Cadamstown, Clonaslee, Glenbarrow and Monicknew. Apart from Kinnitty, there is no accommodation directly on the route itself, but several welcoming towns and villages nearby provide convenient overnight options. A downloadable trail map is available to help plan your journey.
