St. Cormac’s Well Walk
What it’s all about
About
St. Cormac’s Well Walk in Kilcormac explores a site associated with St Cormac Ua Liatháin, described by St Adamnan as a “soldier of Christ.” A priest from Munster, St Cormac succeeded St Columcille as Abbot of Durrow Monastic Site and later travelled with him in the conversion of Scotland. He undertook three perilous sea voyages seeking solitude as a hermit. The walk centres on St Cormac’s Well, a place of prayer where visitors can follow traditional pilgrimage stations still observed today.
