Duelling and King’s County, up to 1845 … Aidan Doyle

  • History talks Other

Hosted by Birr Historical Society. Aidan Doyle has published many historical books and is currently the chief tour guide at Clonmacnoise monastic settlement.

The practice of duelling to resolve disputes or ‘satisfaction’ was highly prevalent across King’s County ( County Offaly) for several centuries. However, shifting public option and stricter policing led to the near-total eradication of the practice by 1845. This talk will examine duelling in Offaly before this eradication.

All welcome: €5 per talk
€20 for a single membership, and €30 for couples to join Birr Historical Society
