REGENESIS – Vincent Devine
- Exhibitions and Shows
Opening Saturday 4th July, 3pm
REGENESIS is a mid-career exhibition by Irish artist Vincent Devine, bringing together a selection of works created across different stages of his artistic practice. The exhibition presents an opportunity to pause and reflect on the evolution of a body of work shaped by curiosity, research, intuition, and lived experience.
The exhibition traces Devine’s early explorations of portraiture and historical figures, where painting became a means not only of capturing likeness, but also of exploring the essence and psychology of his subjects. These early research-driven works laid the foundation for later projects rooted in collaboration and human experience. Influences such as Vincent van Gogh and other misunderstood historical figures informed an approach centred around emotional depth and the complexities of identity.
Alongside portraiture, REGENESIS includes automatic drawings and intuitive works that explore the subconscious mind, gesture, and spontaneity. The exhibition highlights the breadth of Devine’s practice and his embracing of experimentation and the unexpected directions that emerge through the creative process.
More recent paintings developed through collaborations with cancer researchers, scientists, and patients reflect the artist’s ongoing interest in art as a tool for communication. Through symbolism and layered imagery, these works seek to make complex scientific and emotional experiences visually accessible.
REGENESIS ultimately reflects an artist in transition — looking back on two decades of practice while contemplating new directions still to come.
Runs until Saturday 26th September
