Family, Fashion and the Private Archive
Explore Birr Castle Demesne’s historic textile and fashion collections in this Heritage Week talk, taking place in the Copper Tree Gallery on 15 & 16 August 2026. Suitable for ages 12+, this free event draws on over four centuries of family archives to reveal stories told through clothing, photographs, letters and personal papers.
Highlights include rare 1930s gowns belonging to Anne, Countess of Rosse, featuring designs by couturier Charles James. The talk also covers conservation and cataloguing work supported by the Irish Heritage Council, alongside wider stories of fashion, family history and archival discovery within the collection, including an early example of the Order of St Patrick.
