Clonony Castle – Matthew De Renzi v John Mc Coughlan – This is not just history, it’s high drama! A tale of ambition, reinvention, rivalry and resilience.  An original play By Eddie Alford.
 
Matthew De Renzi is a man on the brink — bankrupt, hunted and carrying only €5 and an extraordinary gift for languages. From the cloth markets of Antwerp to the power corridors of Dublin, his journey is one of reinvention, ambition and sheer audacity. A master linguist fluent in Latin, Italian, English, German, Spanish and Irish, De Renzi quickly wins the favour of Sir Arthur Chichester, the Lord Deputy of Ireland. 
With powerful allies behind him, he ventures west to the untamed lands of Delvin McCoughlin (today Banagher, Ferbane, Cloghan and Shannon Bridge) determined to carve out a future. However, claiming 100 acres at Clonony Castle places him in direct conflict with Sean Óg and John Mac Coughlan, hereditary chiefs fiercely protective of their ancestral territory.
